Exploring your concerns

I understand taking that first step with a new counsellor isn't easy; especially if you have never sat with a counsellor before and are not loving the idea of sharing sensitive and/or personal information with someone you don't really know. Or maybe you have already seen a few counsellors and are wondering what will be different this time.  Or perhaps you aren't quite sure you need a counsellor, but know that something isn't right and you'd like to explore your options further.  Whatever your individual situation, my commitment is to meet you where you're at with compassion, non-judgment, and caring and to help you feel safe exploring whatever you're struggling with.  Here are some of the issues I've helped people to overcome over the years:

Trauma Therapy and EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: An efficient therapy allowing the body to reprocess disturbing experiences; thus decreasing anxiety, alleviating negative self-talk and negative beliefs, increasing confidence, and eventually helping the client become free from the past.


Mindfulness and DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: By practicing mindfulness clients become more grounded and present as they begin to leave judgements aside and learn to accept themselves and their feelings.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a traditional type of talk therapy built on the foundation that thoughts and behaviours inform our feelings.  CBT is goal oriented and focuses on the here and now, allowing clients to make changes to their lives in a practical way by inviting different feelings to emerge through awareness and action.


Integrative Therapy

Working as part of an integrative team allows clients to improve the mind as well as the body.  Often psychological concerns show up as pain in the body and, using an integrative approach, clients can benefit mentally and physically through a variety of methods such as massage, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, and holistic nutrition. I can help you build your team of support by making referrals to my professional network.


Addiction Treatment

Has drinking or drug use become problematic for you or someone you love?  Using industry standard assessment tools based on the criteria of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) I can help you better understand what you're struggling with and what level of intervention is necessary to return to a healthy, balanced lifestyle.  You will gain compassionate support, self awareness and guidance toward achieving your personal goals.
